Verhaal
Ana de Mendoza is een goede vriendin van koning Filips II van Spanje. Hij doet een beroep op haar om Antonio Pérez op te leiden voor het ambt van staatssecretaris. Wanneer Ana verliefd wordt op Antonio, is de koning jaloers.
